Jared Built Vessels so they would be Like a Whale in the Midst of the Sea - so Exceedingly Tight that they Cannot Breathe in them Except for the Air which is in them, and a Hole in the Top to be Unstopped to Receive Air
And there is No Light in them, and they Cannot have Windows for they will be Dashed to Pieces in the Depths of the Sea
And they Came Forth from the Tower of Babel, and Crossed that Great Sea to the Land of Promise, Three Hundred and Forty Four Days upon the Water
{Ether 2:16}, Torah
And the Lord said, "Go to work and build after the manner of vessels which you have hereto built." And it came to pass that the brother of Jared went to work, and also his brethren, and built vessels after the manner which they had built, according to the instructions of the Lord. And they were small, and they were light upon the water, even like the lightness of a fowl upon the water.
{Ether 2:17}, Torah
And they were built after a manner that they were exceedingly tight, even that they would hold water like a dish; and the bottom was tight like a dish; and the sides were tight like a dish; and the ends were peaked; and the top was tight like a dish; and the length was the length of a tree; and the door, when it was shut, was tight like a dish.
{Ether 2:18 - 19}, Torah
And it came to pass that the brother of Jared cried to the Lord, saying, "O Lord, I have performed the work which You have commanded me, and I have made the vessels accordingly as You have directed me. And behold, O Lord, there is no light in them; where will we steer? And we will also perish, for we cannot breathe in them, unless it is the air which is in them; therefore we will perish."
{Ether 2:20 - 21}, Torah
And the Lord said to the brother of Jared, "Behold, you will make a hole in the top, and also in the bottom; and when you will allow for air, you will unstop the hole and receive air. And if it so is that the water comes in upon you, behold, you will stop the hole, so that you may not perish in the flood." And it came to pass that the brother of Jared did so accordingly as the Lord had commanded.
{Ether 2:22}, Torah
And he cried again to the Lord saying, "O Lord, behold I have done even as You have commanded me; and I have prepared the vessels for my people, and behold there is no light in them. Behold, O Lord, will You allow that we will cross this great water in darkness?"
{Ether 2:23 - 24}, Torah
And the Lord said to the brother of Jared, "What do you will that I should do so that you may have light in your vessels? For behold, you cannot have windows, for they will be dashed in pieces; neither will you take fire with you, for you will not go by the light of fire. For behold, you will be as a whale in the midst of the sea; for the mountain waves will dash upon you. Nevertheless, I will bring you up again out of the depths of the sea; for the winds have gone forth out of My mouth, and I have also sent forth the rains and the floods.
{Ether 2:25}, Torah
And behold, I prepare you against these things; for you cannot cross this great deep unless I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which will come. Therefore, what do you will that I should prepare for you so that you may have light when you are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?"
{Ether 3:3 - 4}, Torah
"…Do not allow that they will go forth across this raging deep in darkness; but behold these things which I have melted out of the rock. And I know, O Lord, that You have all power, and can do whatsoever You will for the benefit of man; therefore touch these stones, O Lord, with Your finger, and prepare them so that they may shine forth in darkness; and they will shine forth to us in the vessels which we have prepared, so that we may have light while we will cross the sea."
{Ether 6:2 - 3}, Torah
[And so] it came to pass after the Lord had prepared the stones which the brother of Jared had carried up into the mount, the brother of Jared came down out of the mount, and he put forth the stones into the vessels which were prepared, one in each end; and behold, they gave light to the vessels. And thus the Lord caused stones to shine in darkness, to give light to men, women, and children, so that they might not cross the great waters in darkness.
{Ether 6:6}, Torah
And it came to pass that they were buried in the depths of the sea many times, because of the mountain waves which broke upon them, and also the great and terrible tempests which were caused by the fierceness of the wind.
{Ether 6:7}, Torah
And it came to pass that when they were buried in the deep, there was no water that could hurt them, their vessels being tight like a dish, and also they were tight like the ark of Noah; therefore, when they were encompassed about by many waters, they cried to the Lord, and He brought them forth again upon the top of the waters.
{Ether 6:10}, Torah
And thus they were driven forth; and no monster of the sea could break them, nor whale that could mar them; and they had light continually, whether it was above the water or under the water.
{Ether 6:11}, Torah
And thus they were driven forth, three hundred and forty four days upon the water.
{Ether 6:12}, Torah
And they landed upon the shore of the promised land. And when they had set their feet upon the shores of the promised land, they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land, and humbled themselves before the Lord, and shed tears of joy before the Lord, because of the multitude of His tender mercies over them.
