59:1
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts God, *Book of Enoch 41:7, *Book of Enoch 69:23 - 24, *Psalms 69:34*Psalms 148:3 - 4, *Psalms 148:7 - 12, *Prayer of Azariah 1:36 - 1:60 and He is the Almighty, the Wise.

59:2
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from God; but [the decree of] God came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so that] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take lesson, O you who have eyes [to see].

59:3
And if not that God had written exile for them, He would have punished them in [this] world, and the punishment of the Fire is for them in the Hereafter.

59:4
That is because they opposed God and His messenger. And whoever opposes God - then indeed, God is severe in penalty.

59:5
Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their roots - it was by permission of God and so that He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.

59:6
And what God restored [of property] to His messenger from them - you did not spur any horses or camels for it [in an expedition], but God gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and God is Powerful over all things.

59:7
And what God restored to His messenger from the people of the towns - it is for God and for the messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the needy and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the messenger has given you [of bounty] - take; and what he has forbidden you [of bounty] - refrain from. And fear God; indeed, God is severe in penalty.

59:8
[There is also a share] for the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their wealth, seeking bounty from God and [His] approval and supporting God and His messenger. Those are the truthful.

59:9
And [also there is a share for] those who were settled in the home and the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and do not find any want in their hearts of what they were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in poverty. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.

59:10
And those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and do not put resentment in our hearts toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."

59:11
Have you not seen those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely come out with you, and we will not obey anyone in regard to you - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you." But God testifies that they are liars.

59:12
If they are expelled, they will not come out with them, and if they are fought, they will not aid them. And if they should aid them, they will surely turn their backs; then they will not be aided.

59:13
You [believers] are certainly more feared within their hearts than God. That is because they are a people who do not understand.

59:14
They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.

59:15
[Theirs is] like the example of those shortly before them; they tasted the consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment.

59:16
Like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am innocent from you. Indeed, I fear God, Lord of the worlds."

59:17
So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.

59:18
O you who have believed, fear God. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear God. Indeed, God is Aware of what you do.

59:19
And do not be like those who forgot God, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.

59:20
The companions of the Fire and the companions of the Garden are not equal. The companions of the Garden - they are the successful.

59:21
If We had sent this Qur'an down upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of God. And We set forth these examples to the people so that perhaps they will give thought.

59:22

He is God, the Creator, the Maker, the Former; the best names [belong] to Him. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Almighty, the Wise.
