36:3
Indeed you are from among the messengers,
36:5
[This is] a revelation of the Almighty, the Merciful,
36:6
So that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.
36:7
The word has already come true for most of them, so they do not believe.
36:8
Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are stiffnecked.
36:9
And We have put a barrier before them and a barrier behind them and covered them, so they do not see.
36:10
And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.
36:11
You can only warn one who follows the reminder and fears the Most Gracious unseen. So give him good news of forgiveness and noble reward.
36:12
Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and We have enumerated all things in a clear register.
36:13
And set forth an example to them: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -
36:14
When We sent two to them but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."
36:15
They said, "You are nothing but human beings like us, and the Most Gracious has not sent down a thing. You are only telling lies."
36:16
They said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you,
36:17
And we are not responsible for [anything] except clear notification."
36:18
They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and a painful punishment will surely touch you from us."
36:19
They said, "Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."
36:20
And a man came running from the farthest end of the city. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.
36:21
Follow those who do not ask for [any] payment from you, and they are [rightly] guided. *Shepherd of Hermas 43:12
36:22
And why should I not serve He who created me and [He] to whom you will be returned?
36:23
Should I take [false] gods other than Him [while], if the Most Gracious intends some adversity for me, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?
36:24
Indeed, I would then be in clear error.
36:25
Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me."
36:26
It was said, "Enter the Garden." He said, "I wish my people could know
36:27
Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."
36:28
And We did not send down any soldiers from the heaven upon his people after him, nor would We have done so.
36:29
It was nothing but one shout, ~*Amos 1:2, ~*Amos 2:2, ~*Joel 2:11, ~*Joel 3:16 and immediately they were extinguished.
36:30
How regretful for the servants. No messenger came to them except that they used to ridicule him. *2 Chronicles 36:16
36:31
Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they will not return to them?
36:32
And indeed, all of them will be brought present before Us.
36:33
And the dead earth is a sign for them. We have brought it to life and brought forth grain from it, and they eat from it.
36:34
And We placed gardens of palm trees and grapevines therein and caused some springs to burst forth therefrom -
36:35
So that they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful?
36:36
He is Exalted, who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know. *Book of Enoch 54:8, *Sirach 33:15
36:37
And the night is a sign for them. We remove [the light of] day from it, so they are [left] in darkness.
36:38
And the sun flows [on course] to a fixed resting place. That is the determination of the Almighty, the Knowing.
36:39
And the moon - We have determined phases for it, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.
36:40
It is not allowable for the sun to grasp the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day, but each is swimming in an orbit.
36:41
And there is a sign for them in that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship.
36:42
And We created for them that which they ride from the likes of it.
36:43
And if We should will, We could drown them; then there would be no responder for them, nor would they be saved
36:44
Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.
36:45
But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy..."
36:46
And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are turning away from it.
36:47
And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which God has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if God had willed, He would have fed? You are in nothing but clear error."
36:48
And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
36:49
They do not await [anything] except for one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.
36:50
And they will not be able [to make] a will, nor can they return to their people.
36:51
And the Trumpet will be blown; and at once they will hasten from the graves to their Lord.
36:52
They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Gracious had promised, and the messengers told the truth."
36:53
It will not be [anything] except one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.
36:54
So Today no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed for [anything] except for what you used to do.
36:55
Indeed the companions of the Garden will be amused in [joyful] occupation that Day -
36:56
They and their spouses - reclining on adorned couches in shade.
36:57
There is fruit for them therein, and there is whatever they request [or wish]
36:58
[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.
36:59
[Then He will say], "But stand apart Today, you criminals.
36:60
Did I not make a covenant with you, O children of Adam, that you do not serve Satan - [for] indeed, he is a clear enemy to you -
36:61
And that you serve [only] Me? This is a straight path.
36:62
And he had already led astray much of creation from among you, so did you not use reason?
36:63
This is Gehenna, which you were promised.
36:64
Burn therein Today for what you used to deny."
36:65
That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn. *Wisdom of Solomon 4:20, *2 Ezra 16:65

And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?
36:67
And if We willed, We could have transformed them in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.
36:68
And he to whom We grant long life, We reverse in creation; so will they not understand?
36:69
And We did not give [Muhammad] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is nothing but a message and a clear Qur'an
36:70
To warn whoever is alive and so that the word may come true against the disbelievers.
36:71
Do they not see that We have created cattle for them from what Our hands have made, and [then] they are their owners?
36:72
And We have tamed them for them, so they ride some of them, and they eat some of them.
36:73
And there are [other] benefits and drinks for them therein, so will they not be grateful?
36:74
But they have taken [false] gods besides God so that perhaps they would be helped.
36:75
They are not able to help them, *Wisdom of Solomon 13:16, *Baruch 6:10, *Baruch 6:13, *Baruch 6:49, *Baruch 6:57 and they [themselves] are soldiers in attendance for them.
36:76
So do not let their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare.
36:77
Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] drop [of seed] - then at once he is a clear adversary?
36:78
And he sets forth an example for Us and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?" *John 3:4
36:79
Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is Knowing of all creation."
36:80
[It is] He who made fire for you from the green tree, and then you ignite from it.
36:81
Is He who created the heavens and the earth not able to create the likes of them? Yes, [He is Able]; and He is the Knowing Creator.
36:82
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is. *Genesis 1:3, *Genesis 1:9, *Genesis 1:11, *Genesis 1:14 - 15, *Genesis 1:24, *Book of Jubilees 12:3, *Psalms 33:6, *Psalms 33:9, *Wisdom of Solomon 9:1, *Judith 16:14, *2 Ezra 16:55 - 56
