14:1
Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book which We have sent down to you so that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy -

14:2
God, to whom [belongs] whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -

14:3
The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of God, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.

14:4
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and God sends whom He wills astray [thereby] and guides whom He wills. And He is the Almighty, the Wise.

14:5
And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring your people out from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days of God." Indeed, there are signs in that for everyone patient and grateful.

14:6
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of God upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your women alive. *Exodus 1:16, *Exodus 1:22 And there was a great trial in that from your Lord.

14:7
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"

14:8
And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, God is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

14:9
Has the news of those before you not reached you - the people of Noah and 'Aad and Thamud and those after them? No one knows them except God. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that which you have been sent with, and indeed we are in suspicious doubt about that which you invite us to."

14:10
Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about God, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you so that He may forgive your sins, and He delays you for a specified term." They said, "You are nothing but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were serving. So bring us a clear authority."

14:11
Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but God confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you an authority except by permission of God. And let the believers trust in God.

14:12
And why should we not trust in God while He has guided us to our [good] ways? And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And let those who would trust [indeed] trust in God."

14:13
And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.

14:14
And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position and fears My threat."

14:15
And they requested victory [from God], and [therefore], every obstinate tyrant was disappointed.

14:16
Gehenna [will be] before him, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.

14:17
He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And a massive punishment [will be] before him.

14:18
The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; *Wisdom of Solomon 5:14 they are unable [to keep] a [single] thing from what they earned. That is the extreme error.

14:19
Have you not seen that God created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and bring [forth] a new creation.

14:20
And that is not difficult for God.

14:21
And they will come out [for judgement] before God all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail anything for us against the punishment of God?" They will say, "If God had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient; there is no place of escape for us."

14:22
And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, "Indeed, God had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with God] before. Indeed, there is a painful punishment for the wrongdoers."

14:23
And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to Gardens [in which] rivers flow beneath them, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace."

14:24
Have you not seen how God sets forth an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the heaven?

14:25
It brings [forth] its [good] fruit *Matthew 7:17 all the time, by permission of its Lord. And God sets forth examples for the people so that perhaps they will be reminded.

14:26
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, *Matthew 7:19 not having any stability.

14:27
God keeps those who believe firm with the firm Word in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And God sends the wrongdoers astray. And God does what He wills.

14:28
Have you not seen those who exchanged the favor of God for disbelief and made the home of ruin lawful for their people?

14:29
[It is] Gehenna, which they will [enter to] burn, and it is wretched as a settlement.

14:30
And they have attributed equals to God to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for indeed, your destination is the Fire."

14:31
Tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange, nor any friendships.

14:32
It is God who created the heavens and the earth and sent down water from the heaven and brought forth some fruits thereby as provision for you and subjected the ships for you to sail through the sea by His command and subjected the rivers for you.

14:33
And He subjected the sun and the moon for you, continuous [in orbit], and subjected the night and the day for you. *Book of Enoch 82:8

14:34
And He gave you from all you asked of Him. And if you should count the favors of God, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is most surely unjust and disbelieving.

14:35
And when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city secure and keep me and my sons away from serving idols.

14:36
My Lord, indeed they have led many astray among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me; and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are Forgiving and Merciful.

14:37
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your Forbidden House, ^2:144, ^2:149, ^2:150, ^2:191, ^2:196, ^2:217, ^5:2, ^5:97, ^8:34, ^9:7, ^9:19, ^9:28, ^17:1, ^22:25, ^48:25, ^48:27 our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make hearts incline toward them from among the people and provide fruits for them so that they might be grateful.

14:38
Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from God *Book of Enoch 9:5, *Job 34:21 - 22, *Jeremiah 16:17 on the earth or in the heaven.

14:39
Praise [belongs] to God, who has granted Ishmael and Isaac to me in old age. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.

14:40
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.

14:41
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."

14:42
And never think that God is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].

14:43
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void.

14:44
And warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn before that there would be no end for you?

14:45
And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We set forth [many] examples for you."

14:46
And they had planned their plan, but their plan is with God, even if their plan had been to move the mountains.

14:47
So never think that God will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, God is Almighty and Owner of Retribution.

14:48
[It will be] on the Day [when] the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], *Isaiah 65:17, *Isaiah 66:22, *2 Peter 3:13, *Revelation 21:1 and all creatures will come out before God, the One, the Prevailing.

14:49
And you will see the criminals bound together in shackles that Day, *Book of Enoch 69:28*Matthew 22:13

14:50
Their garments [will be] of liquid pitch and the Fire will cover their faces.

14:51
So that God will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, God is swift in account.

14:52
This [Qur'an] is notification for the people so that they may be warned thereby and so that they may know that He is only one God *Deuteronomy 6:4, *Mark 12:29, *Mark 12:32, *James 2:19, *Shepherd of Hermas 26:1 and so that those of understanding will be reminded.
