73:1
O you who wraps himself [in clothing],

73:2
Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little -

73:3
Half of it - or subtract a little from it

73:4
Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.

73:5
Indeed, We will cast a heavy word upon you.

73:6
Indeed, the rising [at] the night [for prayer] *Psalms 119:62, *Acts 16:25 is very hard and most potent and more suitable for the Word.

73:7
Indeed, there is prolonged occupation for you by day.

73:8
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.

73:9
[He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs.

73:10
And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.

73:11
And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them a little respite.

73:12
Indeed, there are shackles and Hellfire [for them] with Us

73:13
And food that chokes and a painful punishment -

73:14
On the Day, the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. *Book of Enoch 1:6*Isaiah 34:3, *Judith 16:15

73:15
Indeed, We have sent a messenger to you as a witness upon you just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

73:16
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.

73:17
Then how can you fear a Day that will make the children white-haired, ~*Book of Jubilees 23:41 if you disbelieve?

73:18
The heaven will break apart therefrom; His promise is to be fulfilled.

73:19
Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take a way to his Lord.

73:20
Indeed, your Lord knows that you stand almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and a group of those with you. And God determines the night and the day. He has known that you will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be those among you who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking of the bounty of God and others fighting for the cause of God. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give purifying [alms] and loan God a good loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with God. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness from God. Indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.
