Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than God. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], then indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
[And likewise,] there is not upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they have eaten [in the past] if they [now] fear God and believe and do righteous deeds, and then fear God and believe, and then fear God and do good; and God loves the doers of good.
Isaiah 65:2 - 5, Torah
[But] I have spread out My hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way [that was] not good, after their own thoughts; a people who provokes Me to anger continually to My face; who sacrifices in gardens, and burns incense upon altars of brick; who remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, who eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable [things is in] their vessels; who say, "Stand by yourself, do not come near me; for I am holier than you." These [are] a smoke in My nose, a fire that burns all the day.
Isaiah 66:15 - 17, Torah
[So] behold, the Lord will come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For the Lord will judge all flesh by fire and by His sword, and the slain of the Lord will be many. "Those who sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one [tree] in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, will be consumed together," the Lord says.
16:113 - 114, Qur'an
And [thus] there had certainly come to them a messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers. Then eat of what God has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of God, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
Matthew 8:28, Gospel
[Remember] when [Jesus] had come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
Luke 8:31, Gospel
And [the devils] asked him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
Matthew 12:43, Gospel
[For] when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.
Mark 5:12, Gospel
[So] all the devils asked [Jesus], saying, "Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them."
Mark 5:13, Gospel
And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine, and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.
Matthew 8:33, Gospel
And those who kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
[So] these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.
8:21 - 22, Qur'an
[So] do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear. Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of God are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason -
5:62 - 63, Qur'an
You see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and the devouring of [what is] unlawful. How wretched is what they have been doing. Why do the rabbis and religious scholars [now] not forbid them from devouring what is unlawful and saying what is sinful? How wretched is what they have been practicing.
Deuteronomy 14:8, Torah
[For God said,] "The swine, because it divides the hoof, yet does not chew the cud, it [is] unclean to you, you will not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."
5:59 - 60, Qur'an
[So] say, "O People of the Scripture, do you resent us except [for the fact] that we have believed in God and what was revealed to us and what was revealed before and because most of you are defiantly disobedient?" Say, "Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that as penalty from God? [It is that of] those whom God has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of false deities. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way."
2:172 - 173, Qur'an
[So] O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for you and be grateful to God if it is [indeed] Him that you worship. He has only forbidden to you the flesh of swine, dead animals, blood, and that which has been dedicated to other than God. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.
O children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe -
[Whereby] it has been decreed for every devil that whoever turns to him - he will misguide him and will lead him to the punishment of the Blaze.
43:36 - 38, Qur'an
[For] whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion. Indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided. Until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], "Oh, I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west - how wretched a companion."
23:97 - 98, Qur'an
[So] say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."
16:114 - 115, Qur'an
[So] eat of what God has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of God, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship. He has only forbidden to you the flesh of swine, dead animals, blood, and that which has been dedicated to other than God. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] - then indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.
Do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is lawful," and "This is unlawful," to invent falsehood about God. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about God will not succeed.
[So] say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Or were you witnesses when God charged you with this? Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about God to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge? Indeed, God does not guide the wrongdoing people."
4:160 - 161, Qur'an
[So] for wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them -
Isaiah 66:4, Torah
[For] I will also choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none answered; when I spoke, they did not hear, but they did evil before My eyes, and chose [that] in which I did not delight.
[So] to those who are Jews - We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof:
Deuteronomy 14:7, Torah
[Whereby it was said to them,] "You will not eat of those who divide the cloven hoof, or of those who chew the cud; [as] the camel, and the hare, and the coney, for they do not divide the hoof, but they chew the cud; [therefore] they [are] unclean to you."
[Barnabas 10:9], Gospel
Concerning meats then, Moses received three decrees to this effect and uttered them in a spiritual sense; but they accepted them according to the lust of the flesh, as though they referred to eating.
[Barnabas 10:11], Gospel
[For] again Moses says; "You will eat everything that divides the hoof and chews the cud." What does he mean? He who receives the food knows Him who gives him the food, and being refreshed, appears to rejoice in Him. He said well, having regard to the commandment. What then does he mean? Cleave to those who fear the Lord, with those who meditate in their heart on the distinction of the word which they have received, with those who tell of the ordinances of the Lord and keep them, with those who know that meditation is a work of gladness and who chew the cud of the word of the Lord. But why that which divides the hoof? Because the righteous man both walks in this world, and at the same time looks for the holy world to come. You see how wise a lawgiver Moses was.
[Barnabas 10:5 - 6], Gospel
And you will not eat, He says, lamprey or polypus or cuttle fish. You will not, He means, become like such men, who are desperately wicked, and are already condemned to death, just as these fish alone are accursed and swim in the depths, not swimming on the surface like the rest, but dwell on the ground beneath the deep sea. Moreover you will not eat the hare. Why so? You will not be found a corrupter of boys, nor will you become like such persons; for the hare gains one passage in the body every year; for according to the number of years it lives, it has just so many orifices.
[Barnabas 10:2], Gospel
Indeed and further He says to them in Deuteronomy; "And I will lay as a covenant, My ordinances upon this people." So then it is not a commandment of God that they should not bite with their teeth, but Moses spoke it in spirit.
[Barnabas 10:12], Gospel
But from where should they perceive or understand these things? Howbeit, we, having justly perceived the commandments, tell them as the Lord willed. To this end, He circumcised our ears and hearts, that we might understand these things.
And of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their injustice. And indeed, We are truthful.
Leviticus 7:22 - 25, Torah
[For] the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the Children of Israel, saying, 'You will eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.' And the fat of the beast that dies of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beasts, may be used in any other use, but you will in no wise eat of it. For whoever eats the fat of the beast, of which men offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, even the soul who eats [it] will be cut off from his people."
16:118 - 119, Qur'an
[Thus] to those who are Jews We have prohibited that which We related to you before. And We did not wrong them [thereby], but they were wronging themselves. Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
5:4 - 5, Qur'an
[And so] they ask you, what has been made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals which you train as God has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of God upon it, and fear God." Indeed, God is swift in account. This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them.
