13:1
Alif, Lam, Meem, Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

13:2
It is God who raised the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; *Job 26:11 then He established Himself above the Throne and subjected the sun and the moon, each flowing [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs so that you may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

13:3
And it is He who spread the earth *Isaiah 42:5, *Isaiah 44:24 and placed firmly set [mountains] and rivers therein; and He made two pairs from all of the fruits therein; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed there are signs in that for a people who give thought.

13:4
And there are neighboring plots within the land and [also] gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, several [growing] from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in fruit. Indeed there are signs in that for a people who reason.

13:5
And if you are astonished, - then their saying is astonishing, "When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.

13:6
They impatiently urge you to bring about evil before good, while there has already occurred similar [punishments to what they demand] before them. *Jeremiah 17:15 - 16 And indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.

13:7
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" *2 Ezra 1:35 You are only a warner, and there is a guide for every people.

13:8
God knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose or add. And everything is by due measure with Him.

13:9
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Most Great, the Most High.

13:10
It is the same [to Him] concerning you whether one conceals speech or one publicizes it and whether one is hidden by night or goes freely by day.

13:11
There are successive [angels] for each one, before and behind him, who protect him by the command of God. Indeed, God will not change [the condition] of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when God intends evil for a people, there is no repelling it. And there is no protector for them besides Him.

13:12
It is He who shows you lightning, [causing] fear and hope, and He produces the heavy clouds.

13:13
And the thunder exalts [God] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well] from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes whom He wills therewith while they dispute about God; and He is severe in assault.

13:14
The supplication of truth is to Him [alone]. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is in nothing except error. *Isaiah 46:6 - 7

13:15
And whoever is within the heavens and the earth prostrates to God, *Nehemiah 9:6 willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.

13:16
Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "God." Say, "Have you then taken protectors besides Him [who do] not possess any benefit or any harm [even] for themselves?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed partners to God who created [something] like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?" Say, "God is the Creator of all things, *Psalms 146:5 - 6, *Isaiah 44:24, *Isaiah 45:7 - 8, *Sirach 18:1, *Acts 4:24, *Acts 7:50, *Acts 14:15, *Acts 17:24 - 25 and He is the One, the Prevailing."

13:17
He sends down water from the heaven, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And there is a foam like it from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, seeking ornaments and provision. Thus God sets forth truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it goes away as scum; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus God sets forth examples.

13:18
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. *Book of Enoch 52:7, *Book of Enoch 63:10, *Book of Jubilees 5:23, *Job 36:18 - 19, *Psalms 49:6 - 7, *Proverbs 11:4, *Zephaniah 1:18, *Ezekiel 7:19 Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Gehenna, and it is wretched as a resting place.

13:19
Then is he who knows that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, like one who is blind? Only those who are people of understanding will be reminded -

13:20
Those who fulfill the covenant of God and do not break the contract,

13:21
And those who join that which God has commanded to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,

13:22
And those who are patient, seeking the Countenance of their Lord, and [those who] establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home -

13:23
Gardens of Eternity; they will enter them with whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate,

13:24
[Saying], "Peace to you for what you patiently endured. And the final home is excellent."

13:25
But those who break the covenant of God after contracting it and sever that which God has commanded to be joined and spread corruption on earth - the curse [will be] upon them, and they [will have] the worst home.

13:26
God extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. *1 Samuel 2:7 And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is nothing except [brief] enjoyment [compared] to the Hereafter.

13:27
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" *2 Ezra 1:35 Say, "Indeed, God leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -

13:28
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of God. Unquestionably, hearts are assured by the remembrance of God."

13:29
Those who have believed and done righteous deeds - theirs is a good state and a good place of return.

13:30
Thus, We have sent you to a community in which [other] communities have certainly passed on before, so that you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no god except Him. I trust in Him, and my repentance is to Him."

13:31
And if there was any qur'an by which the mountains would be moved or by which the earth would be severed or by which the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this Qur'an], but the command [belongs] to God entirely. Then have those who believed not despaired that had God willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck by calamity for what they have done - or it will descend near their home - until the promise of God comes. Indeed, God does not fail in [His] promise.

13:32
And [other] messengers were already ridiculed before you, *2 Chronicles 36:16 and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

13:33
Then is He who is standing over every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But they have attributed partners to God. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that which He does not know upon the earth or of what is outside of speech?" Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever God leads astray - there will be no guide for him.

13:34
There will be punishment for them in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have any protector from God.

13:35
The example of the Garden, which those who fear [God] have been promised, is [that] rivers flow beneath it. Its fruit is lasting, *2 Ezra 7:53 and its shade. That is the consequence for those who fear [God], and the Fire is the consequence for the disbelievers.

13:36
And those to whom We have given the Scripture rejoice at what has been sent down to you, but among the factions are those who deny some of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to serve God and not associate [anything] with Him. I call to Him, and my return is to Him."

13:37
And thus We have sent it down as a judgement in Arabic. And if you should follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have any ally or any protector against God.

13:38
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned wives and descendants to them. And it was not for a messenger to come with a verse except by permission of God. There is a Scripture for every term.

13:39
God eliminates what He wills, or He confirms, and the Mother of the Scripture is with Him.

13:40
And whether We show you some of what We promise them or take you in death, only the [duty of] notification is upon you, and the account is upon Us.

13:41
Have they not seen that We come upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And God judges; there is no adjuster of His Judgement. And He is swift in account.

13:42
And those before them had certainly plotted, but the plan [belongs] to God entirely. He knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know whom the final home is for.

13:43
And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, "God is sufficient as Witness between me and you, and whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."
