33:1
O prophet, fear God and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, God is Knowing and Wise.

33:2
And follow that which is revealed to you from your Lord. Indeed God is Aware of what you do.

33:3
And trust in God; and God is sufficient as Disposer of affairs.

33:4
God has not made two hearts for a man in his interior. And He has not made your wives, whom you support, your mothers. And He has not made those you call [sons] your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but God says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.

33:5
Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just with God. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And God is Forgiving and Merciful.

33:6
The prophet is closer to the believers than themselves, and his wives are [closer to the believers than] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship, some are closer to others in the Book of God than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do a kindness to your close associates. That was inscribed in the Book.

33:7
And [mention] when We took the covenant from the prophets and from you and from Noah and Abraham *Book of Jubilees 14:26 and Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary; and We took a solemn covenant from them.

33:8
So that He may question the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers.

33:9
O you who have believed, remember the favor of God upon you when armies came to [attack] you and We sent a wind upon them and armies [of angels] you did not see. And God is Seeing of what you do.

33:10
[Remember] when they came at you from above you and from below you, and when eyes shifted [in fear], and hearts reached the throats and you assumed [various] assumptions about God.

33:11
There, the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking.

33:12
And [remember] when the hypocrites and those who had disease in their hearts said, "God and His messenger did not promise us [anything] except delusion,"

33:13
And when a faction of them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no residence for you, so return." And a group of them asked permission of the prophet, saying, "Indeed, our houses are exposed," while they were not exposed. They did not intend [to do anything] except flee.

33:14
And if they had been entered upon from all its regions and a temptation [to flee] had been asked of them, they would have given [in to that temptation to flee] and not remained [there] except briefly.

33:15
And they had already made a covenant with God before to not turn their backs and flee. And the covenant with God is [going to be] questioned.

33:16
Say, "Fleeing will never benefit you if you should flee from death or killing; and then [if you did], you would not be given enjoyment [in life] except for a little."

33:17
Say, "Who is it that can protect you from God if He intends an evil for you or intends a mercy for you?" And they will not find any protector or any helper for themselves besides God. *Isaiah 43:11, *Hosea 13:4, *Sirach 24:24

33:18
God already knows the hinderers among you and those [hypocrites] who say to their brothers, "Come to us," and they do not go to battle, except for a few,

33:19
Indisposed toward you. And when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes revolving like one being covered by death. But when fear departs, they lash at you with sharp tongues, indisposed toward [any] good. Those have not believed, so God has rendered their deeds worthless, and that is easy for God.

33:20
They think the companies have not withdrawn. And if the companies should come, they would wish they were in the desert among the nomadic Arabs asking about your news. And if they should be among you, they would not fight except for a little.

33:21
There has certainly been an excellent pattern for you in the messenger of God for anyone whose hope is in God and the Last Day and [who] remembers God often.

33:22
And when the believers saw the companies, they said, "This is what God and His messenger had promised us, and God and His messenger spoke the truth." And it increased them only in faith and submission [to God].

33:23
Among the believers are men who have been true to what they promised God. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who awaits. And they did not alter [their covenant] by any alteration -

33:24
So that God may reward the truthful for their truth and punish the hypocrites if He wills or turn to them [in mercy]. Indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.

33:25
And God repelled those who disbelieved in their rage, not having obtained any good. And God was sufficient for the believers in battle, and God is Powerful and Almighty.

33:26
And He brought those who supported them among the People of the Scripture down from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts [so that] you killed a group, and you took a group captive.

33:27
And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their wealth and a land which you have not trodden. And God is Powerful over all things.

33:28
O prophet, say to your wives, "If you should desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and give you a gracious release.

33:29
But if you should desire God and His messenger and the home of the Hereafter - then indeed, God has prepared a great reward for the doers of good among you."

33:30
O women of the prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality - the punishment would be doubled for her, and that is easy for God.

33:31
And whoever among you devoutly obeys God and His messenger and does righteousness - We will give her her reward twice; and We have prepared a noble provision for her.

33:32
O women of the prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear [God], then do not be soft in speech [to men], unless he who has disease in his heart should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.

33:33
And be content in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former [time] of ignorance. And establish prayer and give purifying [alms] and obey God and His messenger. God only intends to remove abomination from you, O people of the [prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.

33:34
And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of God and wisdom. Indeed, God is Subtle and Aware.

33:35
Indeed, the men in submission [to God] and women in submission [to God], the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who guard [their private parts], and the men who remember God often and the women who remember [God often] - God has prepared forgiveness and a great reward for them.

33:36
When God and His messenger have decided a matter, it is not for a believing man or a believing woman that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys God and His messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.

33:37
And [remember, O Muhammad], when you said to the one whom God bestowed favor upon and you bestowed favor upon, "Keep your wife and fear God," while you concealed [something] within yourself which God was to disclose. And you feared the people, while God has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd no longer had any need for her, We married her to you in order that there would not be any discomfort upon the believers concerning the wives of their [adopted sons] when they no longer have need of them. And the command of God is [always] accomplished.

33:38
There is not to be any discomfort upon the prophet concerning that which God has imposed upon him. [This is] the established way of God with those [prophets] who have passed on before. And the command of God is a destiny decreed.

33:39
[God loves] those who convey the messages of God and fear Him and do not fear anyone except God. And God is sufficient as Accountant.

33:40
Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the messenger of God and seal of the prophets. And God is Knowing of all things.

33:41
O you who have believed, remember God with much remembrance

33:42
And exalt Him morning *Psalms 5:3, *Psalms 55:17, *Psalms 92:1 - 2 and afternoon. *Acts 3:1

33:43
It is He who [answers] prayers for you, and His angels, so that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And He is Merciful to the believers.

33:44
Their greeting the Day they meet Him will be, "Peace." And He has prepared a noble reward for them.

33:45
O prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good news and a warner.

33:46
And a Caller [Comforter] to God, *John 14:16, *John 14:26, *John 15:26, *John 16:7 by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.

33:47
And give good news to the believers that they will have great bounty from God.

33:48
And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and trust in God. And God is sufficient as Disposer of affairs.

33:49
O you who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, then there is no waiting period for you to count concerning them. So provide for them and give them a gracious release.

33:50
O prophet, indeed We have made your wives lawful to you, to whom you have given their due compensation, and those you possess by oath from what God has returned to you [of captives], and [also] the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you, and a believing woman if she gives herself to the prophet [and] if the prophet wishes to marry her, [these are] only for you, excluding the [other] believers. We certainly know what We have made obligatory upon them concerning their wives and those they possess by oath, [but these are for you] in order that there will be no discomfort upon you. And God is Forgiving and Merciful.

33:51
You may put aside whom you will of them or take whom you will to yourself. And any that you desire of those [wives] from whom you had [temporarily] separated - there is no blame upon you [in returning to her]. That is more suitable so that they should be content and not grieve and so that they should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of them. And God knows what is in your hearts. And God is Knowing and Forbearing.

33:52
[Any additional] women after [this] are not lawful to you, nor [is it] for you to exchange them for [other] wives, even if their beauty were to please you, except what you [already] possess by oath. And God is an Observer over all things.

33:53
O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But God is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you to harm the messenger of God or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be a great [wrong] with God.

33:54
Whether you display a thing or conceal it, indeed God is Knowing of all things.

33:55
There is no blame upon [women] concerning their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or those they possess by oath. And fear God. Indeed God is Witness over all things.

33:56
Indeed, God and His angels [answer] prayers for the prophet. O you who have believed, pray for him; and greet him with peace.

33:57
Indeed, those who abuse God and His messenger - God has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared a humiliating punishment for them.

33:58
And those who abuse believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly born a slander and clear sin upon themselves.

33:59
O prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women among the believers to bring down [part] of their outer garments over themselves. That is more suitable so that they will be recognized and not be abused. And God is Forgiving and Merciful.

33:60
If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors in the city do not cease, We will surely rouse you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little.

33:61
Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely.

33:62
[This is the established] way of God with those who passed on before; and you will not find any change in the way of God. *Genesis 7:23*Joshua 10:1*Joshua 10:40, *Joshua 11:12, *Luke 17:27, *Luke 17:29

33:63
People ask you concerning the Hour. Say, "Knowledge of it is only with God. *Matthew 24:36*Mark 13:32 And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."

33:64
Indeed, God has cursed the disbelievers and prepared a Blaze for them.

33:65
Abiding forever therein, they will not find a protector or a helper.

33:66
The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had obeyed God and obeyed the messenger."

33:67
And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries, and they led us astray from the [right] way. *Isaiah 3:12*Isaiah 9:16

33:68
Our Lord, give them double the punishment and curse them with a great curse."

33:69
O you who have believed, do not be like those who abused Moses; then God cleared him of what they said. And he was distinguished to God.

33:70
O you who have believed, fear God and speak appropriate words.

33:71
He will [then] amend your deeds for you and forgive your sins. And whoever obeys God and His messenger has certainly achieved a great success.

33:72
Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.

33:73
[It was] so that God may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the men and women who associate others [with Him] and so that God may turn [in mercy] to the believing men and believing women. And God is Forgiving and Merciful.
